XGVRL (eXtensible GrapeVine Reporting Language) is a new open standard for environmental and social reporting in viticulture, inspired by the structure of XBRL but designed specifically for vineyards — especially urban and experimental vineyards.

Its purpose is to create a structured, machine-readable framework to track and report key data related to:

• Environmental impact (soil, water, emissions, biodiversity)

• Social and labor practices (workers’ conditions, community engagement)

• Use of natural resources (energy, fertilizers, waste)

• Risk and compliance (climate risks, certifications, legal issues)

• Vineyard-specific metrics (grape varieties, agronomic practices, sustainability labels)

XGVRL refers with major international sustainability standards, including GRI, ESRS, TCFD, SASB, ISO 26000, and FAO SAFA, offering a transparent and comparable system for ESG reporting in viticulture.

XGVRL is being developed in a modular, machine-readable XML-based format, compatible with existing digital reporting systems and ready for integration into open data platforms and certification tools.
